Funky Treasures

From time to time you find little boxes containing funky treasures.
Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.

Stoep . . . patio . . . terrazza . . . korto . . .

We are born at a given moment,
in a given place and,
like vintage years of wine,
we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born.

As it is the time for Spring to pay us a visit in South Africa it was time to do something to the stoep server.

A little Vignette
The question is what is a vignette?
1.   A small illustration placed at the beginning or end of a book or chapter
2.   A short graceful literary essay or sketch
3.  A photograph, drawing, etc, with edges that are shaded off

But so we still call it a Vignette and the most important thing is to enjoy your life.
To be happy
Its all that matters.

I love history... everything is inspired by history, so that's why I love vintage and antiques.
Thanks for visiting may you all have a wonderful week.

Wing backs reconstruction

We are now more or less finished with the renovations and have started to upgrade our Guest rooms. Some time ago we featured these chairs and their make over.

We came across very drab old wing back chairs.

They now make their own statement

I love their shape and size!!!
Charming!
Look at that sexy legs. This oldie needs a remake.
This oldie shouted please please take me home!
It was now also time to find the material that will do the trick for these lovely oldies. It was necessary to give them a new lease on their durability but also change them into two very special and comfortable chairs. They had a special duty . . . to be comfortable and to be able to sit and look out the little dormer windows and . . . read . . . and look . . . . sip on an old brandy cognac.
This piece of material could tell a story and we know that great stories happen to those who can tell them!!!

All the old drab has been removed and the new beginning is taking shape.

Measure and measure

Mary you are a star!
With Mary's help these are now sexy ladies.
They will charm you and keep you comfortable.

Thanks for visiting
Till next time

When there is time

When there is time I like to tell a story and my medium is quilts.   Over the year my stories just grew.  I have posted this original in 2011 but would like to give you a glimpse of what happened in the mean time.
After the passing of our eldest son five years ago I made the first one.  A sort of memory ... or perhaps it started as something to keep my going. Now every one tells a story of our family.  It is a part of us.
Worn jean, red heart made from a little chair that was re-upholstered.
I do not go on any road trip without stopping somewhere to purchase a piece of cloth.

To create one is a "battle" . . . I cut perfect and not so perfect pieces in the 30cm blocks and then when there is 72 blocks the process can begin.
Little keys add a bit of history

Some charm from Graphic Fairy
The kittens was a piece of  cloth used for pillows when the boys were still toddlers.

The story quilts are every where in our home and else where.

Thanks for visiting

Lots of love
