Wing backs reconstruction

We are now more or less finished with the renovations and have started to upgrade our Guest rooms. Some time ago we featured these chairs and their make over.

We came across very drab old wing back chairs.

They now make their own statement

I love their shape and size!!!
Charming!
Look at that sexy legs. This oldie needs a remake.
This oldie shouted please please take me home!
It was now also time to find the material that will do the trick for these lovely oldies. It was necessary to give them a new lease on their durability but also change them into two very special and comfortable chairs. They had a special duty . . . to be comfortable and to be able to sit and look out the little dormer windows and . . . read . . . and look . . . . sip on an old brandy cognac.
This piece of material could tell a story and we know that great stories happen to those who can tell them!!!

All the old drab has been removed and the new beginning is taking shape.

Measure and measure

Mary you are a star!
With Mary's help these are now sexy ladies.
They will charm you and keep you comfortable.

Wonderful surprise gift from a special guest

A gift is always very special this one now forms part of the history of De Oude Huize Yard

Wendy and Hanchen stayed with us.
They are marketing Nursing as an Occupation in our area.
We have had a wonderful time talking and learning about the life of our guests.

Little did we know that they will stay at our establishment during a second trip.
It was then that we were presented with this beautiful original painting dating back to 1890.

Look at the beautiful dafodills . . . so charming in spring

He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe.
Marcus Aurelius
Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul.
Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.
  Pamela Vaull Starr
This wonderful oil painting by Anton Ferreira dated back to 1890
will now form part of the history of De Oude Huize Yard

The ground we walk on,
the plants and creatures,
the clouds above constantly dissolving into new formations -
each gift of nature possessing its own radiant energy,
bound together by cosmic harmony.

The end of summer

These little flowers grow wild in the fields in and around our town

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. So if you're feeling uncomfortable right now, know that the change taking place in your life is a beginning, not an ending.

May the new season be kind to you all

Our Attic and the history of our towns golf course

De Oude Huize Attic
is our current project.

A writer can write in an attic, or on top of a bus.
Or with a sharp stick in some wet cement.
- Paul Muni -

Where do we start?

The only access to the attic was via a ladder and a small door.
I am not fond of heights.
Once again Hennie had a plan!!!

We will start with a proper door!
Halve way

The new door is now in place but how to get there!!!
Opportunity does not knock, it presents itself when you beat
down the door!
-Kyle Chandler-

A walkway will be the answer!
I am so fortunate to be married to a engineer that can make
everything

If I may say so - it came out perfect.
Hennie and his two helpers completed the job

After an inspection, Hennie decided that the dormer in the roof
will be the next step.....

Every one has to make haste . . .
we are now in the rainy season

Once again Hennie made the dormer on the ground and then hoisted it into place

The view is still magnificient

First dormer is in position I just love it
Nest week will be the fitting of the second window.

The past is an old chair in the attic,
the present an ominous ticking sound,
and the future is anybody's guess.
-James Thurber-

The attic will soon be turned into an extra room for our

Over the  years we have collected a lot of old books
and pictures of our town's golf course.
The scenic 18-hole golf course, arguably the third oldest in
South Africa (after the Royal Cape and George Golf Clubs)
was founded in 1887.

Love to frame this one

This once could be used as wallpaper
